Cyanite

Cyanite

The stone was known in antiquity for its special electrical properties. It is thought to enhance psychic abilities and intuition and encourages personal expression and communication.

The name cyanite comes from its cyan colour and was given to it by the German geologist and mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1789. Cyanite is the official name of the stone as it is recognised by the International Union of Mineralogy. Its second name is Disthene, derived from the Greek words two and sthenos, due to its variable hardness in its various directions. Until the 20th century, it was often confused with sapphire because of its similar indigo color.

Some legends say that the stone was known since ancient times for its special electrical properties.

Cyanite is a powerful transmitter and amplifier of high-frequency energies, acting as an enhancer of psychic abilities and intuition. It encourages personal expression and communication. It dispels illusions, anger, despair and stress. Acts as a natural analgesic and reduces stress.

It belongs to the Silicate Minerals in the Nisopyrite group and the triclinic crystal system. It is a transparent and translucent mineral with a glassy, pearly luster, usually cyan in color with darker shades in the center of the crystal. Sources of cyanite are found in Brazil, the USA, Switzerland, Russia, Serbia, India, and Kenya. In Greece, it is found in Naxos, Paranesti in the Prefecture of Drama and Ano Thermes in the Prefecture of Rodopi.
